aura paintings

As an extension, I enjoy capturing a persons energy through their essence. With my intuitive insight I am painting your shared energy and inspirational essence and inner-self, in the moment, as I customize a unique artistic expression based on your vibration with acrylic paint. Right before your eyes, your aura has been created. Throughout the process, you'll recieve an interpretation of the colors, imagery, messages and feelings from an artistic point of view. The experience leaves you with a clear mind, inspired and knowing the inner-beauty of one's self.

ARTIST

Natosha Keefer considers herself an inspirational artist. Working sans shoes and accompanied by music, she enters into a visual dialogue with her canvas as her brush dances across it. The addition of burlap, sand, and other materials gives added dimension to each unique work. She often creates her art before an audience. Natosha believes her art to be not only a reflection of her authentic self, but that it is in part a product of the creative synergy which results from her interaction with those sharing her experience.

MUSIC

The music to which she works is often from recorded tracks, but sometimes she creates in collaboration with such musical visionaries as Ay Musik. This truly unique artist's work has been featured on MTV Made "It Girl" and "Live Art Attack" (Kansas City's Channel 41). She has delighted audiences as she's created her art at the Plaza Art Fair and numerous charity events, such as the Medical Missions Art Gala and the Epilepsy Foundation's (actual name of event).

"Some of the creations are 3 dimensional with denim, burlap fibers, sand from different beaches and occassionally topped-off with glitter."

DANCE

Natosha's art background extends far beyond painting--she is also an accomplished dancer and musician. Natosha says her background in music and dance in addition to her extensive travel as a child in a "lovely military family" all contribute to her joyous and energetic artistic performances and their finished products. She's been called a dancing colorist; others have referred to her as "The Painted Denim Lady". The names by which she's known are secondary to the joy and energy Natosha radiates as she creates her art. Both are obvious and infectious; audience members often seem to become as enthused and involved in the process as Natosha is as she creates each original piece.

Color Therapy

Artist Natosha Keefer taps into the colors that surround us.

BY TIFFANY KILLOREN, PHOTOS BY PAUL VERSLUIS

It's everywhere. Hues, shades and subtle nuances of color give life to our day-to-day landscapes. Although we've come to expect these colors as providing definition and meaning to life's content, the most vibrant colors of all can't be found on any color wheel. In fact, most people can't see them or deny that they even exist. For Kansas City artist Natosha Keefer, the colors of our auras don't just exist, they hold the answers to questions we may not have even known to ask.

Born and raised in Bethesda, Md., Keefer has always been a bit of a free and open spirit. The opportunity for travel that comes with growing up in a military family was perfect for a personality like hers, a personality that was always searching for the next door to walk through and lessons to be learned. Even at a young age, both Keefer and her parents knew that she was, well, a bit different. "I always wanted to be able to freely express myself without limitation or judgment," she explains. That desire to express herself was inspired, in part, by her ability to see - and sense - things differently than those around her. She recalls, as a young girl, experiencing colors that were accompanied by human emotions. When others saw only a person's face and heard their words, Keefer could also see a color, such as blue.

A self-taught professional ballroom dancer, Keefer traveled around the country before moving to Kansas City, where she met a student in one of her dance classes who stood out from the rest. Shellie Jennings was an intuitive; she could channel something internally that allowed her to see beyond the physical world and, in so doing, defined her place within it. Almost at once, the puzzle pieces began to fall into place for Keefer. She sat down with Jennings one day and said, "OK, let's do this. Tell me what I need to know."

Keefer describes what followed as her transition period. Although Jennings could offer insight as to the intuitive process and guide Keefer as to how best to tap into her own abilities, it was up to Keefer to find what worked for her and decipher the messages she received. It was only with study and determination that she eventually realized her gift had always been in front of her - she could read people's auras.

There are as many definitions for what an aura is as there are colors in the spectrum itself. Put simply, an aura is the colorful energy that surrounds each of us, revealing our challenges, strengths, hopes and spiritual path through unique dances of color. Keefer can see these colors and, with them, a little glimpse into our past, present and future. But, for Keefer, realizing that she has such an intuitive gift was only part of the blessing. Finding a way to share her gift was the next step in her process. Without any professional training, Keefer decided to transfer what she saw during aura readings onto canvas, transforming what she sees into something her subject can see for themselves. If you have your aura painted by Keefer, the process is surprisingly simple. Before formal introductions are even made, she "taps into" a higher source as soon as she sees you. Before paintbrush touches canvas, she can sense the issues weighing on your mind, using her intuitive insight to determine how best to share the information you need to move forward in the most productive way. Before you have time to ask what certain colors on the canvas mean, she has taken her painter's spatula and woven that color into another, stopping every now and then to share a fact or two that there's no way she could have known.

"I grow every time I do a painting," Keefer says. "When I sit down with someone, we're sharing energy." Motivated by helping people reach their potential in life, Keefer admits the auras she observes are not always clear, bright and positive. For example, if someone is in a particularly dark place, an aura's colors may appear foggy during a reading. Keefer doesn't just tell you what you want to hear, however; she tells you what she believes you need to hear to take the journey in life that's meant for you.

According to Keefer, everyone has the potential to see auras and interpret their colors if they approach the process with an open mind and willingness to do the work. Because everyone has such potential within them, Keefer teaches her clients that we all hold the key to our own happiness. "Most people miss the significance in life," she explains. "Creating a significant life isn't about looking outward, it's about asking ourselves the hard questions and figuring why we're here and what we're supposed to be accomplishing. We can create our own destiny."

After experiencing a childhood filled with colors only she could see, Keefer marvels at the beautiful serendipity of it all. Although she still teaches ballroom dancing every now and then, Keefer spends as much time as possible in her NDK Designs studio, a not-so-surprisingly color-filled space that invites you to sit down and let your aura shine through.

What's Your Aura?

Although interpreting an aura is not as simple as defining the colors found in a box of crayons, Keefer provides the following guidelines for understanding what the various colors of your specific aura might represent.

motivation, generosity, passion, hidden anger, strong will, sexuality, leadership qualities, physical energy, sensuality, emotionally charged compassion, artistic creativity, healing qualities, sensitivity, harmony, friendliness, openness, uplifting nature, inspiring, approachable, a sign of power self-driven motivated, possessing personal power, independent, intelligent, scientifically-minded, intellectual, having ingenuity and mental agility, joyful, free signifies relationships, abundance, calming, healing and balance. It represents people who are sensible or natural healers. It also symbolizes a green thumb, renewal, wealth and prosperity communication, faith, trust, an inner-voice, learning, clarity, creativity, integrity, calm and peace. People with a blue aura are often reserved, balanced and telepathic stands for intuition, psychic ability, protection, spiritual activity, therapeutic healing and dreaming. People with a violet aura are often spiritual teachers or leaders unconditional love, balance of spiritual awareness and material existence, optimism signifies healing and an energized personality. People with a turquoise aura are good at influencing other people, make great team leaders, set goals and are capable of projections
